The Safest Lies by Megan Miranda

Synopsis:

Kelsey has lived her entire life in fear. Her mom was kidnapped at the age of 17 and held for a year. When she escaped she took one thing with her, 4 month old Kelsey growing inside her. Kelsey’s life has been sheltered and predictable, living with a mother who is severely agoraphobic. Her life takes a turn however, when she gets in a car accident and is rescued by her classmate Ryan. Kelsey begins to get closer to Ryan who is just as shaken from the accident as she is. Everything seems to be getting more exciting for Kelsey but after sneaking out with her friends one night Kelsey comes home to her house empty. The night quickly turns terrifying and Kelsey, Ryan and their friends, Cole and Annika, are all in danger. When they escape the ordeal, Kelsey has to  untangle the mystery surrounding her mother . As she investigates, Kelsey realizes she doesn’t know her mother, or the real root of her mother’s fears.

My Thoughts:

What would you do if your entire life was built on your parents fears and lies? How long could you take it: the constant phone calls, strict rules, and same old routine. Kelsey lives with the longing to do something, anything, that would make her feel free. This concept was one I hadn't seen before. We meet a young woman who is desperate for independence because she literally has no freedom, unlike the usual teenage longing to be free. How she gains her freedom back is an exciting story full of fights and sleuthing with a dash of help from a cute guy. With several plot twists, this book definitely kept me turning pages. I read it in one day and enjoyed it immensely. If you need something to read or are stuck in a reading funk, this book can definitely get you out, so go give it a try.
Happy reading faeries!
